Guilty by Association is an international ring of interdisciplinary theatremakers based in Vancouver, BC and beyond. Led by Artistic Director Cole Lewis, GbA's projects investigate what the "little world" of theatre can offer the larger world we live in. It also seeks to expand what theatre can do, devising work from design ideas, exploring modes of storytelling, and scheming to fuse media to the stage. GbA seeks to shift its process with each new project as it conspires with an ever-expanding network of collaborators, from far-out disciplines to faraway places.
Cole Lewis instigated GbA with fellow accomplices and founding members Lauren Dubowski, Nicholas Hussong, and Masha Tsimring at Yale School of Drama in 2012. By day, they masqueraded as MFA students in Directing, Dramaturgy, Projection Design, and Lighting Design. But late at night, as they created a show for the Yale Cabaret together, they plotted to uncover new possibilities for their art form.
To date, GbA's work has been spotted at Ars Nova's ANT Fest (2014, NYC) and SummerWorks (2014 and 2015, Toronto), where Cole Lewis was awarded the 2014 Theatre Centre Emerging Artist Award.
